Parental Consent letter

For students under 18 years old traveling to the United Kingdom for a summer program, UK immigration authorities may request a “Parental Consent Letter” upon arrival in the country.

This document is a simple letter signed by the parents or legal guardians authorizing the student to travel and participate in the program in the UK. The purpose of the letter is to confirm that the family is aware of and authorizes the minor’s international travel, accommodation arrangements, and participation in the academic program.

Although immigration officers do not request this document in all cases, we strongly recommend that all students traveling as minors carry a printed and signed copy during the trip.

In general, the letter should include:

  • Student’s full name, date of birth
  • Parents’ or legal guardians’ full names and passport/ID information
  • Authorization for the student to travel to the UK and participate in the summer program
  • Program information (institution name, dates, and accommodation details)
  • Information that the student will be supervised by the program staff during the stay
  • Parents’ contact information and signatures

Oxford prepared a sample that parents can edit, print, and sing to get notarized. Only a copy is required:
